What is AcuSerene®?

AcuSerene® Facial Acupuncture is a specialized acupuncture method developed to restore balance to the face, promoting a more open and naturally expressive appearance.

Many patients seek this treatment in our practice for facial asymmetry, where the two sides of the face look uneven in shape or expression.

Unlike many cosmetic facial acupuncture treatments that focus primarily on skin appearance, AcuSerene® focuses on restoring coordination within the facial and body systems that influence facial balance and expression.

By helping regulate neuromuscular coordination, circulation, and connective tissue tension, this approach supports the natural structural balance of the face.

Many patients notice visible changes after the first session, while deeper improvements become more stable through a short treatment series.

AcuSerene® Facial Acupuncture treatment is available at Takazawa Acupuncture in Midtown Manhattan, New York City.

Improvements in Facial Balance and Structural Support

Many patients notice visible changes in facial tone and expression immediately after the first AcuSerene® session.

As neuromuscular coordination and tissue tone respond to treatment, the face often appears more harmonious and refreshed in expression.

Changes commonly observed after the first treatment include:

• more balanced brow position
• improved facial tone
• clearer facial contours
• improved support in the temple region
• brighter appearance around the eyes
• brighter under-eye areas
• smoother and more supple skin texture

These early changes often serve as a preview of the improvements that develop more fully through a short treatment series.

The goal, however, is not perfect symmetry but a more natural facial balance.

How Facial Structure Changes

Facial balance does not refer only to symmetry between the left and right sides of the face. It also involves the relationship between different regions of the face and head.

In a well-supported facial structure, the forehead, mid-face, and lower face maintain a natural three-dimensional balance, allowing facial features to appear clear, supported, and expressive.

As coordination of facial tissues and body systems improves, this broader structural balance gradually changes how the face is supported structurally. Subtle shifts in facial tone and connective tissue tension allow the face and head to settle into a more naturally balanced form, often giving the face a brighter and more vital appearance with a livelier and more naturally supported facial presence.

Facial appearance is influenced by several physiological systems, including facial muscles, nerve signaling, connective tissue tension, and circulation. Together, these systems support the three-dimensional balance of the face and the functional coordination of facial expression.

They also interact with the broader coordination of the body. When these systems become restricted—for example after injuries or surgical procedures—facial movement and expression may become stiff or uneven.

Because these systems influence how facial tissues are supported and expressed, changes in body balance can affect the tone and expression of the face.

As these systems respond to the AcuSerene® method, facial tissues settle into a more balanced position, and expression becomes more natural as underlying tension and restriction gradually release.

As a result, the face appears:

• more balanced in overall expression
• clearer in facial contour
• brighter around the eyes

These changes reflect improved coordination within the body. As structural balance improves, facial changes develop and continue to shift over time in response to individual patterns and daily influences.

Because the face reflects the body’s ongoing patterns, this process evolves naturally as the body continues to adapt.

A Natural Approach to Balance

AcuSerene® treatment does not aim to force the face or body into perfect symmetry.

The human body is naturally asymmetrical. Internal organs are arranged differently within the body—for example, the stomach sits toward the left side of the abdominal cavity and can influence surrounding musculoskeletal tone when it expands after a large meal. Even the lungs differ, with three lobes on the right and two on the left, and the right lung is slightly larger than the left.

Because the head and face are supported by the body’s postural and musculoskeletal structure, these natural asymmetries are also reflected in subtle differences in facial structure and functional expression.

The goal of treatment is to restore each patient’s natural balance rather than forcing the body or face into artificial symmetry.

Over time, daily habits such as uneven weight bearing, injuries, surgical history, or repetitive movement patterns can shift this personal balance and affect facial tone and expression.

This method works to reduce the effects of these patterns and support a healthier structural relationship within the body. Restoring balance in the body allows the face to settle into a more natural and harmonious expression.

In cases of significant skeletal conditions—such as scoliosis—the degree of change may be more limited. Even so, many patients still experience meaningful improvements in facial balance, tone, and overall harmony.

AcuSerene® Facial Acupuncture Treatment

AcuSerene® sessions last 1 hour and 45 minutes. The treatment includes detailed facial acupuncture together with acupuncture in carefully selected areas of the body that influence facial tone, circulation, and neuromuscular coordination.

This integrated approach allows the treatment to address both facial patterns and the broader physiological systems that influence how the face is supported and expressed.

Hands-On Facial Treatment

AcuSerene® Facial Acupuncture is performed manually on the face using precise acupuncture needle placement and refined hands-on techniques.

During treatment, microcurrent stimulation may be applied to selected areas of the body—such as the abdomen or extremities—to support broader physiological regulation. The facial portion of the treatment is performed manually, without electrical devices applied to the face.

Each session is individualized according to the structural patterns of the patient’s face and body. Subtle changes in facial tone are observed throughout the session, allowing the technique to be continuously refined as the face responds.

Product-Free Facial Treatment

During AcuSerene® treatment, no cosmetic products, creams, or topical preparations are applied to the face.

Because this method focuses on physiological regulation rather than topical cosmetics, the treatment does not involve product recommendations or skincare sales.

Patients who prefer to apply their own moisturizer before leaving are welcome to bring their personal products and may use the restroom facilities after the session.

How Facial Changes Develop Through Treatment

Many patients notice visible changes after the first session, which often serve as an initial indication of how the face may respond to treatment.

From the second session onward, changes often begin occurring more internally as the facial structure establishes a deeper foundation. Over time, these changes continue to develop in subsequent treatments.

For this reason, treatment is often approached as a short series of sessions so that these changes have time to become expressed and stabilized.

Many patients begin with a three-session series to observe how their facial structure responds. In some cases—particularly when facial imbalance has developed over a longer period—a five-session series allows deeper structural patterns to respond more fully.

The appropriate number of treatments varies for each individual. As treatment progresses, the practitioner observes how the face responds and can help guide whether additional sessions would be beneficial.

Patients who are interested in improving facial balance, expression, or facial asymmetry are welcome to schedule an AcuSerene® Facial Acupuncture treatment at our Midtown Manhattan clinic.

AcuSerene® Facial Acupuncture FAQ (NYC)

The following questions address common concerns about AcuSerene® Facial Acupuncture and how the treatment works.

How can AcuSerene® Facial Acupuncture improve facial asymmetry?

Facial asymmetry is a common concern in our practice. Many patients notice differences such as one eyebrow appearing higher than the other, uneven eyelids, or one side of the face looking different in expression.

Rather than focusing only on the skin, AcuSerene® Facial Acupuncture works through the body’s physiological systems that influence facial tone and structure.

By helping regulate neuromuscular coordination, circulation, and connective tissue tension, the treatment supports a more balanced relationship between the two sides of the face.

Because every face is naturally asymmetrical, the goal of treatment is not perfect symmetry but a healthier and more natural facial balance.

Can AcuSerene® help improve an uneven smile?

An uneven smile can occur when the muscles, connective tissues, or structural support of the face function differently on the two sides.

These patterns may develop gradually through habitual movement, injuries, surgeries, or changes in the body’s overall balance.

AcuSerene® Facial Acupuncture works by helping regulate neuromuscular coordination and connective tissue tension that influence facial tone and expression.

As these patterns respond to treatment, facial movement becomes more balanced and natural, which improves the appearance of an uneven smile.

Can AcuSerene® help with hollow temples, under-eye hollowness, or dark circles?

Hollow temples, under-eye hollowness, and dark circles are common concerns.

These areas are influenced by facial tone, circulation, and the way facial tissues are supported.

By helping regulate neuromuscular coordination and broader body patterns that influence facial tone, AcuSerene® Facial Acupuncture improves the support and tone of facial tissues.

As these patterns respond, patients often notice improved fullness in the temples and a brighter appearance around the eyes.

The goal is not to artificially fill these areas but to allow the facial structure to settle into a healthier configuration.

How many treatments are usually needed?

Many patients notice visible changes after the first treatment. However, the pace and degree of improvement vary depending on each person’s facial structure and underlying patterns.

For this reason, treatment is typically approached as a short series of sessions so that structural improvements can gradually develop and stabilize.

The first treatment often provides an early indication of how the face responds, while subsequent sessions allow deeper structural improvements to develop and become more stable.

Does AcuSerene® Facial Acupuncture include body acupuncture?

Yes. The treatment (1 hour 45 minutes) integrates acupuncture for the face together with selected areas of the body that influence facial tone and balance.

Can I receive AcuSerene® if I have cosmetic injections?

Yes. It is important for us to know the location and type of injections you have received.

Please provide this information when completing your intake form so we can determine the most appropriate treatment approach.

General Acupuncture for Additional Health Concerns

The AcuSerene® Facial Acupuncture treatment integrates facial acupuncture together with acupuncture in carefully selected areas of the body that influence facial tone and structural balance.
